A Foodies Guide To Singapore
Sharing my ultimate foodies guide to Singapore (a guide for every budget!)...
Rounding up my favourite foodie spots in Singapore!...
Singapore is the foodie destination of Asia, home to 52 Michelin starred restaurants, vibrant cultural food spots and countless Hawker centres - one thing is for sure, you won't go hungry in Singapore!
Having just returned from a magical four-night trip to Singapore, one of the things that draws me to this wonderful city is the food! The variety is just incredible and there really is something for everyone, whether you're travelling on a budget you'll be able to find delicious, local cuisine at Hawker centres or if you're into fine dining then take your pick of 52 Michelin starred spots, there's something for everyone, and every budget!
Best for: Budget - Hawker Centres
If you're heading to Singapore then experiencing one of Singapores many Hawker Centres is a MUST. Hawkers are full of street food vendors where you'll enjoy a delicious, local and VERY affordable meal! I love grabbing lunch / dinner at a Hawker in Singapore, you feel like you're dining like a local, you get to immerse yourself in culture, AND you're not breaking the bank!
Which Hawker Centres? My favourites are: Maxwell Road, Newton, Chinatown & Lau Pa Sat
How much? Prices starting at $1-2 SGD (approx 60p-£1.20) for smaller items such as drinks and Dim Sum, I think the most I paid was £6 for a meal including a drink!
Best for brunch: Bearded Bella
I was staying in the uber cool Duxton Hill area of Singapore, packed with independent eateries and shops, this is a great area to grab a coffee and explore! I came across Bearded Bella and stopped by for brunch (I loved it so much that I headed back two days later!). My order was an iced latte and acai bowl (delicious!).
How much? Approx. £19 for an Acai bowl, oat muffin & iced coffee.
Best for: Cultural Cuisine - Zam Zam, Kampong Glam
If you're exploring the vibrant Kampong Glam district (well worth a visit, it's such a great experience), you'll want to check out Zam Zam for some local 'Murtabak' - I had the beef one which was delicious!
*I'd highly recommend a visit to Kampong Glam; check out Haji Lane and Arab Street to really immerse yourself in the culture of Singapore in this Malay-Muslim district.
How much? This meal & a drink cost me just £4.80 so a great spot for an affordable meal!
BEST FOR: A QUICK BITE - BLACK TAP
Black Tap is a craft burger and beer restaurant (located just inside the shops at Marina Bay Sands), and is a great spot for a quick bite to eat. If you're a burger lover then these gourmet burgers are one for you to check out!
I had the "Texan Burger"; a prime burger with aged cheddar, crispy onion ring, bacon, sweet baby Rays BBQ & Mayo - washed down with a homemade lemonade, this meal was delicious!
How much? £23 for a burger & drink
Best for: a solo date night - National Kitchen by Violet Oon at the National Gallery
On my last night in Singapore I took myself on a solo date night to the National Kitchen by Violet Oon at the Nation Gallery, recommended to me by one of my close friends who said she'd had "one of the best meals of her life there", I knew I had to check it out.
I was lucky enough to grab a last minute reservation at one of the bar seats and ordered the "Beef Rendang"; their most popular dish - I ordered mine with Roti & Coconut Rice and it was a meal to remember!
I then took myself onto a jazz bar to complete a wonderful solo date night (highly recommend!).
How much? £38 for a Beef Rendang curry with rice and Roti plus a glass of house wine (slightly more expensive but SO worth it if you're looking for a nice meal in Singapore!).
Other locations to note: My Awesome Cafe | HAAKON (great for acai bowls) | Christina's (Mondrian Hotel Duxton Hill - great for a glass of wine & some dessert)
