5 Ways We’re Winter Proofing Our Home This Year
[ This blog post in kindly sponsored by Local Heroes ]
I feel like I blinked and it was January – anyone else?! I actually love a New Year, it’s so cliché but it always feels great to have a fresh start and get back to work (especially after the Crimbo limbo period!).
The one thing about this time of year that makes it hard is the COLD! The dark mornings and early dark evenings, and having to wear 29364528 layers every time you leave the house! Winter time is when Ben and I go into hibernation mode (along with most of the nation I think?!), we love cosying up of an evening, with the candles on and lots of blankets on the sofa and some hot tea – it makes for the perfect winter evening!
I’ve teamed up with Local Heroes to bring this blog post with you all, where I thought I’d round up the 5 ways we’re winter proofing our home and getting cosy this year!
Who are Local Heroes? Since being founded in 2016, Local Heroes has been committed to matching skilled and vetted local tradespeople to customers who need jobs completed in their homes – backed by British Gas, Local Heroes provide support for up to 13 trade including plumbing, plastering, heating and tiling!
I love the concept of Local Heroes – we’re currently looking for an electrician and will also be on the hunt for a plumber / tiler to help with our bathroom in a few months too so we’ll be using Local Heroes! Having moved to a new area, we’ve been stung by local tradesmen a few times – I love the fact that Local Heroes carefully vet all of their tradesmen, we’ll be using them for sure!
My top 5 ways we’re winter proofing our home!...
1. Get snug! As I briefly mentioned, mine and Ben’s favourite thing to do in the winter months (who am I kidding, we snuggle on the sofa with blankets in the summer too haha!), is to get on the sofa with a blanket and a cat each, and watch a film / good TV series. We LOVE being cosy at home and I have a blanket box in the lounge, as I always want our guest to be cosy and to feel at home too!
2. Light some candles! Every night we light all of the candles in the lounge, it’s perfect for creating a serene ambience! Our lounge is dark grey and the candles make it feel so cosy and warm, we turn off all of the lights and just have the candle lights whilst watching TV / catching up on our days – it makes the house so welcoming!
3. A nice cup of warm tea! Ben is obsessed with herbal teas lately and every night we’ll have a camomile / herbal tea before bed – it’s such a nice way to warm up from the inside and to unwind / feel cosy before bedtime!
4. Make sure your home is heated properly! This is where Local Heroes come in – their mission is for you to have a worry free winter! Local Heroes are experts in boiler care and what it takes to heat a home, so they’ve revealed unmissable finance options from under £21 throughout January 2020! (Have a read through their House Warmer Guide for their top tips on Winter Proofing your home this winter!).
5. Have a hot bath! My favourite way to warm up and unwind is to take a hot bath, at the end of most days I’ll run a hot bath, light some candles and read my book for half hour – it’s the perfect way to wind down from a busy day and clear my mind of work before bedtime!
There we have it guys – my top 5 tips for winter proofing your home this year! What are your favourite ways to get cosy at home during the Winter months? Have you heard of Local Heroes before? Will you be using them for your home?
