My plan to spend one month in New York City
Sharing my plans to spend one month in New York City this Autumn!
Gahhhhh I don’t even know how to start this post - it feels like this has been such a long time coming and a TOTAL dream for me that I still can’t *quite believe it’s actually happening!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve vowed to myself that I would spend one month in New York City! Now it’s absolutely NO secret that NYC is one of my favourite places on Earth, it’s just so magical to me and I love everything about it.
I’m not really a believer of visiting the same place time and time again (because there’s so many beautiful places in this world to explore right?!), BUT I have to say that there’s just something about New York that just draws me back time and time again.
Now, a few things to note - like I said this has been a dream of mine for YEARS and I’m so glad to be making it happen. The reason it hasn’t happened before now? Well the time just hasn’t really ever been right; I’m a firm believer of things happening when they’re meant to. Ben and I have saved SO hard for he past two years for our beautiful home and that was our goal and huge achievement, financially I just couldn’t do both and had to prioritise the house (which I absolutely wanted to do!).
Now we’re in the house, I know it’s time to chase my dream and go after it! The second thing I wanted to discuss is money, I don’t ever want this to come across all willy nilly like “oh I’m just popping to NYC for a month”, because this is a REALLY fucking big deal to me!
I’m looking to cut corners and do it as cheaply as I can; because I don’t have thousands saved to make this dream a reality, but I know that if I put my mind to it and graft these next few months that I *can do it. I’m planning to book flights with Norwegian (my favourite airline - they’re so affordable and I’ve always had a great experience!), I’ve had a quick scan and I can get a return flight for £374 including baggage etc.
As for accommodation I’ll probably stick to Airbnb, a mix of affordable entire house apartments (mostly when I have people visiting), and rooms in houses / flats etc for the rest of the time to keep costs down. As I’ll be in my own accommodation I’ll cook most evenings to keep costs to a minimum and limit eating out.
I don’t really have plans, other than to walk around all day; explore every nook and cranny of New York and to live like a local so I can share all of the best tips with you all! Whilst I’ll cut corners and save where I can, I’ll also continue blogging and working whilst I’m there and will go to gigs, shows and explore jazz bars to feel like I’m having the real New York experience.
I want to take my laptop and work from the New York Public Library, have picnics for one in the sunshine at Central Park, watch shows on broadway and scout out the best coffee & brunch spots! I want to walk the high line with my camera and the Brooklyn Bridge at night, I want to find the best rooftop bars and photo spots in the city.
For one month of my life; I want to call New York City Home.
