Sharing our Autumnal overnight stay at the stunning Sopwell House in St Albans!

Sopwell House - 11

Where? Sopwell House, Cottonmill Ln, St Albans AL1 2HQ

The other week, Ben and I took a drive out to the countryside and spent the night at the stunning Sopwell House in St Albans! It made for the perfect autumnal break and today I'm sharing exactly why!

If Sopwell House isn't already on your radar, ask yourself why because this place is AMAZING! The journey by either car or train is under an hour from London, this slice of cosy paradise is right on our doorstep!

Here's exactly why we loved Sopwell House & are already planning our return!

Our Room: Heather Mew Suite

We were super lucky to spend the night in one of the Mews Suites - ours was the Heather Suite! I can confirm that it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! You walk into a lounge area, complete with a fireplace, comfy sofa, flat screen TV and kitchen area. Upstairs we had a HUGE comfy bed, bath tub and rain shower!

My favourite thing about the mews HAD to be the access to the communal gardens and hydro pool (pictured above!). After dinner we made some camomile tea and jumped in the hydro pool to watch the stars before we called it a night - it was so lovely!

The grounds & hotel...

One of my favourite things about Sopwell House had to be the picturesque grounds, it's like a sanctuary hidden just an hour from London! From the outdoor area where we sat and had lunch in the sunshine, to the fish ponds, acres of land and the mews outside.

This place perfectly captures 'the great outdoors', it showcases the best of the countryside, yet it still feels super homely!

The food...

In the evening we were fortunate enough to dine at Sopwell House two AA rosette restaurant which serves seasonal British and European dishes. We ordered from the set menu and selected a bottle of white wine to accompany our food!

For starters Ben had the '62 degrees egg' dish - £10.50; broccoli, truffle, garlic and black potato. I opted for the 'Scallops' - £16.00; served with black pudding, cauliflowers and curry - they were delicious!

For the main course Ben went for the lamb dish - £28.50, which was served with spiced lentils, salsify, hispi cabbage and toasted barley (YUM!), and I opted for the cod dish - £25.00 which came with almond, celeriac and pickled blueberry!

We were absolutely blown away by the food and would drive back to the hotel just to dine in the restaurant again!

It's a great escape from the hustle and bustle of London - if you're looking for some R&R this winter then I'd highly recommend a cosy overnight stay in the stunning hotel!
