A Maldivian island that truly left a place in my heart, welcome to Maafushivaru!...

Maafushivaru - 40

Maafushivaru, South Ari Atoll, Maldives

The Maldivian island that truly left a place in my heart, it was love at first site and I can guarantee that it would be for you too - let's explore the luxurious island of Maafushivaru!

Where? Maafushivaru, South Ari Atoll, Maldives

Now, i'm going to start off by saying that I KNOW I *pretty much love everywhere I visit (I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever stayed in a bad resort, and whilst I belive in honesty and transparency I don't believe in writing negative reviews), but I can honestly say that this was literally the DREAMIEST place I've ever stayed. EVER. From the second we arrived I just fell in love, the private island to the staff and our water villa, it was just all so, so magical and it really carried a lot of special memories for myself and Ben, let's take a look why!...Maafushivaru - 45Maafushivaru - 39OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The island: With it's small island charm (it's just over 350 metres in length), Maafushivaru really feels like home! Myself and Ben got to meet and get to know all of the staff; from our Teppanyaki chef, to the Marine Biologists and restaurant staff - it really felt so wonderful to know people on this resort on a personal level; for me - it's what made this island feel so special and personal!

Getting there: To reach Maafushivaru we embarked on a 25 minute seaplane journey, this was actually my second time on a seaplane and it was just as incredible as the first time! There really is no better way to see the islands/sandbanks of the Maldives than a seaplane transfer, I would highly recommend trying to book onto one - no matter where you visit in the Maldives as it really is a once in a lifetime experience in itself!

Our water villa: We spent our first two nights on Maafushivaru in one of their DREAMY Beach Villas which came complete with VOYA toiletries, an outdoor shower, private decking area and king size bed (yup, it was bloody wonderful!). HOWEVER, on our last night; the wonderful staff at Maafushivaru VERY kindly upgraded us to a Water Villa which was OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Our Villa came with a bath/shower overlook the ocean (massive highlight for me - I don't think I'll ever have a bath like it again!), steps leading down straight into the sea, sun loungers on the decking area, and complete privacy as the villas can be accessed from a jetty on the island.. the DREAM!

The food: Sooooo, I can't believe I'm actually admitting this but I tried Sushi for the VERY first time whilst I was at Maafushivaru, it's always something that's kind of freaked me out before but the hotel had booked us into their stunning Teppanyaki restaurant 135 East where our wonderful chef prepared some incredible fresh sushi in front of our very eyes (he put on an amazing show which I'll feature in my YouTube video so be sure to watch that!), as well as some Miso soup, and Wagyu Beef for our main course. I can conclude that I bloody LOVE Sushi and I now I genuinely can't believe that I didn't try it sooner!

Snorkelling with Whale Sharks: When we checked into the resort we were surprised with a Whale Shark snorkelling excursion which we were both super excited about (although I was partly terrified as I hate sharks/deep water), but I can honestly say it was one of the most INCREDIBLE experiences ever, we were lucky enough to spot two Whale Sharks which our marine biologist told us was pretty rare and it only happens every couple of months! After we'd snorkelled with the Whale Sharks we headed out to two different reefs to do some snorkelling and spotted the most beautiful Turtle, Eels, white tip reef sharks, Octopus and so much more - it was bloody M A G I C A L!

Magical island: So, I'm just going to throw it out there and say that Maafushivaru was my favourite resort that we stayed in on our recent trip (think I've already made that pretty clear haha!), it just truly left a special place in my heart and I'll never forget our magical three days we spent there. If you're looking to book your honeymoon destination in the Maldives then Maafushivaru is THE island for you!
