Why Blogging Should Be Accepted As A Successful Career

Today I'm speaking out on behalf of all bloggers, of some of my best friends, of people who I adore but have never actually met.Because enough is enough.I'm DONE with the patronising comments, the cat calling, the 'when are you going to get a real job?', it's time that people realised that blogging isn't a fad. It's not a phase in our lives, it's our JOBS.We, as independent sassy girl bosses have set up our own businesses, we run our blogs full time (some us run them alongside our jobs and boy do I admire you all because I know how much work goes into blogging).And this should be celebrated. Not torn down and trashed.In all honestly, I'm tired of people trying to belittle what we do, and all because they don't understand what it is that we actually do.So, I'll enlighten you...We are content creators, photographers, stylists, editors, we keep on top of our finances, admin and taxes, whilst scheduling content, promoting ourselves on social media, attending networking brands with other like-minded bloggers and brands we one day hope to work with. We plan travels and photoshoots, we film videos and edit them, we are multi taskers and perfectionists. We are hard working bloggers.That word 'blogger' gets thrown around a lot; but for some it has a negative impact, and it shouldn't.To anyone that isn't a blogger, you should never feel intimated by us or threatened by what we do. Because we're just like you, we don't ever put ourselves on a pedestal, so you shouldn't either. We have down days, we work from home in our tracksuits with greasy hair doing that dreaded tax return. Don't ever forget for one second that we choose what we show you; our highlight reel, but we don't ever show you the 'boring days' but our lives are pretty darn normal.Don't for one second think we take our lives for granted, because we honestly don't (yes, there may have been the odd few that have slipped through the net), but generally speaking, most bloggers I know are some of the most genuine, loyal and humbling people I've ever met. Every new beauty launch we get sent, or press trip we get invited on, or talk we get asked to host - all of these moments seem so surreal sometimes. Proper 'pinch-me-what-did-I-do-to-deserve-this' moments, but we're just ordinary girls, doing extraordinary things.I started my blog six years ago whilst at university, and never, ever in a million years did I think that it would turn into my full time job and allow me to travel the world, I'm so eternally grateful but at the same time, I shouldn't feel guilty for saying yes to these opportunities because I work my fucking ass off. We all do.So it's time to stop with the patronising/belittling comments, I truly see blogging like an iceberg, and the outside world really only see's the top layer, you don't see the hard work, graft and tears that goes on beneath that layer.I completely understand that people don't 'understand' what we do, but that's absolutely fine, we aren't asking you to understand, hell sometimes we don't even understand. The industry is moving so fast we're just trying to adapt and grow with it, none of us really know what's around the corner, but right now we're embracing that. And I'm asking you to embrace that with us too.Which is why I'm going to step out on behalf of the blogging industry and say it's time.It's time to celebrate blogging, celebrate the fact that us girls who had NO idea where this industry would lead us, are now writing published books, presenting TV shows, travelling the world, becoming brand ambassadors.
Because I for one, am so fucking proud of each and every one of us. For creating our OWN path and paving our OWN ways to success, and I want you to be proud of us too! <3
