5 ways to inject Hygge into your life with Hive!
“Hygge” - the Danish ritual of enjoying life’s simple pleasures If you’re an avid reader of FMIF then you’ll know that I’m ALL about that Hygge life; which is essentially ‘enjoying life’s simple pleasures’ i.e reading a good book, snuggling up by the fire in your PJs or surrounding yourself with loved ones! I think that Hygge is basically the best excuse to get some down/chill time in your life - especially during the colder months! I’ve teamed up with at home heating system; Hive and put together my top 5 tips on how to inject Hygge into your life - so, here goes it!...
1.) Keep Your Loved Ones Warm
Now I don’t know about you, but I LOVE treating my loved ones, my favourite part of Christmas is definitely giving presents over receiving them! My mum has recently had Hive installed at home, as she works such long hours at a homeless shelter and it’s so much easier for her to control her heating from an app, so she can warm up the house before she gets home late at night! I also have the app installed on my phone so that I can stay connected with my mum whilst I’m travelling, Hive’s campaign #YoureNeverFarFromHome is based around connecting loved ones from afar, and with the help of Hive you can do just that! Whilst in Paris this past weekend I logged into my mums account and turned her heating on last Friday night, so she could run herself a nice bubble bath with a glass of wine once she got home from work. It warms my heart knowing that I can help look after her, from anywhere in the world - just on an app, ALL of the feels!
What is Hive I hear you ask girls? Well, the Hive Active Heating is an EPIC way to control your heating and hot water, at home or from an app on your phone! You can control it anywhere, anytime - cool, huh?! It’s also super easy to set up a schedule too, so you can control it to come on for an hour in the morning when you wake up, and for a few hours every evening, you may even want to put it on for an hour or two during the day! It’s super easy to install, a British Gas engineer will install in in just 3 easy steps so you’ll have Hive in no time at all! BUT... That’s not all folks, they have a number of products which can be a part of the ecosystem, for example they offer Hive Active Light to control your lighting from where you are in the world (perfect if you’re travelling and want to switch a light on to make it look like you’re home!). Hive = home geniuses!
2.) Have an EPIC brainstorm
I always find that my best ideas always come when I’m not in ‘work mode’, of an evening I tend to have a nice bubble bath and get in my favourite PJs and put pen to paper. I’ll have an EPIC Pinterest session and surround myself with travel and fashion magazines and just have a good ol’ brainstorm, from blog direction to blog post ideas - I got it covered! I love making lists of ideas that I could use for potential blog posts, then if I’m feeling stressed or hit a ‘writers block’ I can just refer to my brainstorms for content ideas! Another great tip is to create mood boards, I recently picked up some foam board from Hobby Craft and have made projection boards for 2017!

3.) Light ALL of the candles
I have a serious candle obsession, I actually counted the other day and I have 15 in my room, yet every time I enter a homeware shop I seem to buy more (is there a candle anonymous group someone can direct me to?!). Every day when I’m working from my office, I’l light at least 3 candles, I find that it helps me to relax and creates a really nice environment to work from - a room that smells lush helps to ease stress I find! Also, lighting all of the candles is V appropriate for binge watching Netflix in bed.. go on, try it!
4.) Run a hot bubble bath
You guys know that I LOVE a bubble bath, myself and Ben having a running joke that literally every time we stay in a hotel; the very first thing I do once we’ve checked in is run a bath (even in Thailand; I kid you not!). A couple of times a week (who am I kidding?!) every night, I’ll run myself a bath with my favourite bath oil and some Himalayan sea salts, take a good book and enjoy some serious R&R for a while; if I’m feeling cheeky I’ll take a glass of wine/prosecco with me. Oh and I’ll light ALL of the candles and relax!
5.) Read a good book
I’m actually not kidding when I say I ordered 6 new books on Amazon yesterday! I have seriously re-kindled my love of reading and can’t seem to stop! During our trip to Thailand I read four new books and just became obsessed with reading again! Whether it’s in bed at night, on the train or in the bath - reading a good book and heading to another world for a while is the perfect time to embrace some downtime and relax properly! Switch off your phone and avoid watching TV and just immerse yourself in a good book!
