5 Ways To Maximise Space In A Small Bedroom
Sharing my top five ways to maximise space in a small bedroom!
Before Christmas I carried out a room makeover for my brother on a room that he's moved into (the room was in a flat share my dad lets out), the room is the smallest in the house - at 9.2 x 8.4 ft, I had to be clever with storage as there really wasn't any room for error. Luckily my brother is pretty streamlined with his belongings and doesn't have tonnes of stuff, this room didn't leave many places to hide his belongings to here are my tips on being savvy with storage in a small room!
I've rounded up my top five tips on storage and maximising space in a small bedroom - I hope you find this post useful!
1.) Hang your bedside light:
In a small room you want to maximise space in every way you can, I opted for a small bedside cabinet from ManoMano for Daniels room as I wanted him to have somewhere to charge his phone, leave his book / cup of tea but I didn't want anything too big or imposing.
One way I found that would free up more space on his bedside table was hanging the bedside light, this light from La Redoute works so perfectly with the space and is a great above bed / reading light - plus it saves the space of using a bedside lamp!
2.) Open wardrobes:
One of the main ways I opted to maximise the space within this room was via open wardrobes, firstly this room just wasn't big enough for big chunky wardrobes (my brothers wardrobe in his old flat was a huge pine one and I don't even think it would have fit in this room!). I picked out two of these open wardrobes from ManoMano, one bigger for most of his clothes, then a smaller one for underwear /t-shirts etc.
Another aspect that I love with open wardrobes is that you can still see the gorgeous wall colour behind which also creates an illusion of space as the room is more open!
3.) Add a narrow shelf:
Due to the size of the room I didn't feel like there was room to be adding shelves as they'd take up too much room, however I did want to add a little something and opted for a narrow shelf - this was actually just an old bed slat cut down and oiled!
I fixed it just above the radiator as it frames it really nicely and is a nice spot for some decorative items such as a faux candle, a picture frame or some decor such as this cute metal & wood Calm sign from Matalan!
4.) Under bed storage:
Another simple yet super effective way to save space is under bed storage! I ordered 2 of these protective cases from La Redoute and they're perfect for bedding, towels and thick winter jumpers / coats! Out of site, out of mind!
5.) Utilise a door hook:
This Matalan door hook is another saviour as like the under bed storage it's also out of site, just hang it over your door and use for any big coats / bath robes & towels - a great hack for hanging bulkier items!
There we have it - my 5 tips on utilising space in a small bedroom that I picked up and made the most of with this recent makeover! What do you think? Do you have any storage saving tips?
