My Top 5 Tips For Decorating Your Home On A Budget
Sharing my top tips for decorating and styling your home on a budget!...
1.) Hunt for a bargain:
I am a bargain hunter through and through; I just love it! Whether I'm browsing second hand sites like eBay / Facebook Marketplace or wandering around a bootsale - I've ALWAYS been a fan of a bargain! It's such a good feeling to buy something on the cheap (especially when people compliment it!), I picked up this gorgeous black rattan chair above on Facebook Marketplace recently and love it - I've made a reading corner in our lounge, what a find!
If you're not used to bargain hunting, then now is the perfect time to start, have a browse on eBay for a cool antique piece for your home, it helps you really think about what it is you're after rather than impulse buying, plus you can save money along the way. Oh, and don't forget to haggle - I've always lived by the 'If you don't ask, you don't get' rule!
2.) Upcycle!:
I LOVE upcycling, it's a great feeling injecting a new lease of life into a piece of homeware or furniture! I recently upcycled a desk by painting it and changing the handle - it looks like a totally new desk, you really can make something look brand new and WAY more expensive, just with a few coats of paint, a change of handles / some accessories to style it up!
Again, you can always pick up some pre-loved furniture oneBay / Facebook Marketplaceand add your touch to it... one man's junk is another man's treasure and all that!
3.) Swap with a friend:
To save money, why not ask a friend if they want to swap some home bits? We've all bought stuff on impulse that doesn't quite look how we imagined, if you don't want to sell it online, why not see if some of your friends have anything they're looking to get rid of that you could swap with?
4.) Sell & buy:
I've been selling loads of bits on eBay / Facebook Marketplacerecently, I keep all the money in my PayPal and use those funds to re-buy house items that I really want / am in love with! I like to think of it as an exchange I'm selling all the bits I no longer want / need and replacing them with stuff I do, and it's all coming from the same pot of money so it's not eating into my bank account! (Makes me feel less guilty that way haha! Anyone else do this?!)
5.) High street for less:
I'm a HUGE fan of high street homeware stores, pretty much our whole house is high street, I'm absolutely not adverse to saving up for a nice piece of furniture, a beautiful print or an antique piece, but like I said I'm a bargain girl at heart and just find it way more satisfying to pick up a bargain or a gem in the sale!
Some of my favourite high street home stores are: H&M | La Redoute | Next | Dunelm | Homesense | Matalan | Sass and Belle | Habitat | Desenio (amazing prints!) | IKEA | Rockett St George | MADE.com | Wayfair | Simply Be
