Eeeek, so our kitchen renovation has been finished and I am IN LOVE! This was our most exciting transformation and by far the biggest job we’ve undergone since buying the house 8 months ago!

When we moved in we said we wouldn’t do the kitchen or bathroom for a couple of years, but things change like the wind and I was steaming through decorating and wanted to give the kitchen an overhaul (poor Ben!).

After spending some time (*cough 265962 hours) on Pinterest, I loved the idea of putting open shelves on one side of the kitchen to open up the space.

I honestly think it was the best decision we made, it makes the kitchen look much bigger, as well as super light and airy rather than dark. SO many people told me not to loose the cabinets as we’d loose a lot of cupboard space, but we’ve managed to fit most of our crockery and glassware onto the shelves, and we’ve built extra storage in our cupboard under the stairs to make up for what we lost!

My one piece of advice would be to do what your gut instinct tells you when it comes to decorating! So many people advised us not to paint all of our lounge dark and to do a feature wall, but it was the best decision we ever made - if you want to do something, DO IT. It can be changed if you don’t like it!

I wanted to post together today on how we’ve styled our open shelves and some top tips on putting yours together! Ive partnered with one of my favourite homeware brands; La Redoute on this post to show you how I’ve styled the Hiba Oak Shelves in our kitchen and what products I picked out to complete the look of our kitchen!...

TIP ONE: OPT FOR PRETTY BUT PRACTICAL

1.) My first tip would be when it comes to your crockery and glass wear; opt for practical but something that also looks nice. If you’re going to decorate your open shelves, it’s always nice to use decorative pieces that compliment your shelves!

TIP TWO: USE FRESH FLOWERS

2.) Nothing quite finishes a kitchen light a fresh bunch of flowers does it?! I adore sunflowers, they’re my favourite flowers as I love the brightness of them - they brighten up any room and I adore having them in our kitchen!

TIP THREE: ADD INTEREST WITH HEIGHT & DECORATIVE OBJECTS

3.) If you’re styling up your shelves then remember to have a little fun with it, it doesn’t have to be all practical. Are some prints, picture frames, decorative objects and plant pots - used varied shapes and heights to add some interest to your shelves!

TIP FOUR: OPT FOR A COLOUR SCHEME

4.) We’ve mainly used white, grey and dark blue / black in our kitchen so we tried to follow the colour scheme through when it came to styling our shelves. I’ve added pops of colour with the sun flowers and greenery to add some new colours and textures, but to create a concise look with the rest of your kitchen - keep your colour theme consistent and use 3-4 colours when it comes to styling your shelf!

TIP FIVE: ADD SOME GREENERY

5.) My last tip would be to add some greenery / dried flowers! For me adding greenery really does finish a shelf off perfectly, it adds colour, texture and a little nature to what could be quite a dull storage shelf! I picked up some new plants & dried flowers the other day for the shelves and I love how they compliment the styled shelves!

Would you consider open shelves in your kitchen? Do you like this style? Have you shopped at La Redoute before?
