The Importance Of Caring For Yourself On A Down Day & My Top Tips

Sharing my top tips for self care on days when I'm not feeling my best!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALast week I had a really bad day, I'd woken on the Monday morning and just felt like a fog had decended and I didn't know what to do, I drove home from Ben's and once I was home I felt so overwhelmed with work I had to do and sadness but I had no idea as to what had triggered it or why I felt that way. But then it got me thinking; there isn't always a reason, sometimes we just have bad days and that's fine, at first I was stressed because I coulnd't afford to not get any work done, but then I decided to not be so hard on myself and take it easy! I took the day to take care of myself and here's how...1.) Get in some relaxation; One of the first things that sprung to mind when I was feeling crap was run a hot bath; add in some bubbles; pour a glass of wine and just relax. Take some time out and just do 'nothing'. I had a super relaxing playlist in the background and read my book for a good hour or so; it's such a nice feeling to loose yourself in a book and not worry about anything for a while!2.) Do something 'just because'; It struck me that I hadn't done anything 'just because' in such a long time, I'm constantly planning or creating or scheduling and I hardly have a moment to just do something because I want to or because I can. I went to my local Paperchase and picked up a sketchbook; I recently made my dad a book for his 60th birthday, full of snaps from our childhood and he absolutely loved it. I've decided to make one for myself; packed full of my favourite memories; something that I'll treasure forever. Don't feel like you always have to justify why you do something; just doing it because it makes you happy is enough!3.) Exercise; I've gone from the girl who hated the gym to someone who actually *enjoys it; I've been doing 4/5 classes every week and absolutely loving it! I've been reaping the benefits and seeing a difference in both my mind and body; exercising releases endorphins which helps to lift your mood. I really struggled to shake my bad mood so I took myself off to the gym for a work out, it was a good distraction and left me feeling better afterwards!4.) Stay offline; I always find that if I'm having a bit of a crappy day; I stay offline. I mean I'll still write posts and answer emails but I mean offline as in away from social media; sometimes there's nothing worse that someone raving about how happy they are/how good their day is/how fab their new campaign collab is when you're feeling low. Normally I'd be like YOU GO GLENN COCO, but when you're feeling a bit shit, it's far too easy to compare yourself and feel worse!5.) Don't blame yourself; Something that is so important to remember but when practicing self care it's crucial to remember to not blaming yourself for having a bad day or feeling down. At first I was frustrated with myself because I had SO much to do and I feel like I didn't have time to feel down; but alas, thinking that way helped nothing, so I quickly realised that it was just 'one of those days' and whilst I did what I could, I primarily focus on feeling better within myself.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat are your self care top tips?
